How to Use a Sticky Floor Mat?

A cleanroom sticky mat is a peel-off mat designed to remove dirt, dust, and particles from the soles of shoes, wheels, and equipment before they enter a cleanroom or controlled environment. These mats are typically placed at the entrance or exit of cleanrooms to maintain a particle-free space.

Here’s how to use it properly:

1️⃣ Choose the Right Location

  • Place the mat at entrances where people or equipment will enter the cleanroom (e.g., doorways, corridors).

  • Position it on a flat, hard surface (like tile, concrete, or vinyl flooring). Make sure it’s secure and won’t slip.

2️⃣ Ensure Proper Size

  • Choose a mat with sufficient surface area for the number of people and equipment passing through.

    • Standard Sizes: Typically 18” x 36” or 24” x 36”. Larger areas may require multiple mats or an extended mat roll.

3️⃣ Remove Protective Layer

  • Peel off the protective film to expose the sticky surface on the mat.

  • The mat will have a series of numbered sheets (usually 30-60 sheets), which are designed to be peeled off one by one after they become dirty.

4️⃣ Ensure Clean Feet or Wheels

  • Walk on the sticky mat (or roll equipment across it) so that the adhesive surface can pick up dirt, dust, and debris.

    • For shoes: Step on the mat for a few seconds to allow the adhesive to collect particles.

    • For wheels: Roll carts, equipment, or pallets across the mat to pick up debris.

5️⃣ Replace Used Sheets

  • Once the top layer of the sticky mat gets dirty and loses its effectiveness, peel off the top sheet to reveal a fresh one underneath.

  • Dispose of the used sheets properly, as they can contain contaminants.

6️⃣ Maintain the Mat

  • Check the mat regularly for wear or dirt buildup. If the mat becomes saturated with dust, it’s time to replace it.

  • Keep the cleanroom entrance area free of contaminants by ensuring the sticky mat stays in good condition.

Tips for Using a Cleanroom Sticky Mat:

  • Don’t overlap mats — keep them aligned and spaced appropriately.

  • Avoid excessive use of footwear covers if your cleanroom policy allows, as they can reduce the mat's effectiveness.

  • Ensure the sticky mat is replaced regularly—the cleaner the mat, the more effective it is at preventing contaminants from entering.

Benefits of Cleanroom Sticky Mats:

Prevents contamination by trapping dirt and dust from entering the cleanroom.
Reduces the need for additional cleaning inside the cleanroom.
Easy to use and maintain, with minimal effort to keep clean areas particle-free.

By using sticky mats, you can help maintain the integrity of your cleanroom, lab, or other controlled environments where even the smallest particles can affect processes or products.
